Facilities
Kirkland Lake is blessed with the range and kind of tourism and
recreational facilities one normally only finds in a much larger
community.
Looking
for a place to stay? You'll find a Howard Johnson and Comfort
Inn located downtown. Check out the accommodations
page for more suggestions, including quaint lakeside
inns, bed and breakfast places, camping grounds, etc.
Do you need a place to host an event? Kirkland
Lake has a number of venues, ranging from small, informal settings
like church halls to larger capacity rooms at the Royal Canadian
Legion. For performances, the auditorium at Northern
College offers incredible acoustics and comfortable, large scale
seating. For small wine and dines, or something of a more formal
nature, consider the Museum of
Northern History at the Sir Harry Oakes Chateau. Browse the
KL
Business Directory for more information.
Looking to take
in a sporting event? The Joe
Mavrinac Community Complex frequently plays hosts to
swim meets, karate seminars and ice hockey tournaments. Hey, it's
the home of the Legion
87's, one of the hottest hockey teams in the north, so you know
that there's always a great game to watch! The Parks 'n' Recreation
Division, which manages the Joe, also does a lot with summer sport
teams, like soccer, baseball, etc. If you want to know what's going
on around town on any given day, call the Joe at (705) 567-5215.
Is a round of golf more to your liking? Established
in 1932, the Kirkland
Lake Golf Club is one of Northern Ontario's finest courses.
The facilities include kitchen, clubhouse, driving range, and a
pro shop with equipment and refreshments.
Looking for something a bit more on
the cultural side? In addition to the normal Hollywood fare,
foreign or alternative films are often shown at the LaSalle
Theatre. Or browse the book stalls at the Teck
Centennial Library. You'll be surprised at
the range of magazines, unique books and AV material they
have there. And don't forget the Museum
of Northern History. You can trace the history
of Kirkland Lake at the museum, or enjoy the original works
of local artists and craftspeople.
Want to finish off the evening with a glass of fine wine and a
good dinner? Check out the KL
Business Directory for a listing of restaurants.
